Machanimals Playing Cards, created by Celsius Pictor in collaboration with Max Playing Cards, is a fully custom deck that fuses Renaissance elegance with the mechanical imagination of the Industrial Age.

Inspired by centuries of European playing card tradition, each face card is richly illustrated with anthropomorphic characters and ornate designs that honor classical court structures while reimagining them in a fantastical alternate history. The style reflects both the refinement of medieval art and the detail of vintage mechanical engravings.

The back design features four warriors guarding a pond—figures said to have come from Jerusalem under Sultan Saladin—set in a scene evoking medieval Arab art and the legacy of Al-Andalus. Packaged in a lavish, embossed tuck case resembling a medieval skyline, the deck is crowned with a complex coat of arms blending heraldry and machinery.

Artemis Playing Cards by ARK

Thalassic Playing Cards by Marianne Larsen

Award-winning creator Marianne Larsen returns with Thalassic playing cards, a bold new project that dives deep into myth, mystery, and maritime lore. Designed in collaboration with artist Martin Helgren, Thalassic is a dual-edition deck that captures the spirit of the sea through luxurious finishes, rich storytelling, and intricate illustration.

Inspired by the legend of the Green Galleon, a ship said to have sunk in shark-infested waters with a fortune in gold and sapphires aboard-Thalassic invites collectors on a journey filled with daring pirates, mythical peacocks, and hidden maps.

Two unique editions, Blue Lagoon and Green Galleon, tell different sides of the story through distinct card backs, gilding, and custom tuck boxes adorned with vintage foil and embossing.

Each deck features original artwork for the court cards, grouped into four pirate crews: the rebellious Buccaneers, the tactical Armada, the wild Scallywags, and the sly Picaroons. 

While both editions share the same crew illustrations, the Blue Lagoon edition presents them in full-art, one-way designs, and the Green Galleon in classic mirrored layouts. The number cards hide thematic surprises, including elements of a treasure map when arranged in sequence.

Retro. Narative. Duality.

STORIES Volume 3 from Vanda Playing Cards is a beautifully crafted deck that continues the brand’s exploration of narrative duality. Designed by Serbian artist Srdjan Vidakovic (Widakk), this fully custom edition showcases his signature retro aesthetic and imaginative storytelling.

Each court card illustrates two sides of a tale in mirrored detail. The deck features soft, pastel tones enhanced with metallic inks on the face cards, giving it both charm and refinement. 

Printed by Cartamundi, the deck is housed in a gold and green tuck box designed to resemble a vintage book spine, it includes interior printing, embossing, and a metallic seal for a luxurious finish. Available from Vanda Playing Cards for $30.

Celestial Playing Cards by Thirdway Industries:

Thirdway Industries just launched Celestial, a stunning new series of playing cards inspired by angels and the divine choirs of Heaven. Each deck features entirely unique illustrations, reimagining angelic beings through the lens of symbolic, powerful design illustrated by Giovanni Meroni.

The Celestial series includes three distinct decks: Sophia, Fulgida, and Amor Dei, each representing a facet of angelic virtue: wisdom, radiance, and love. While the fully custom face cards remains consistent, the artwork of each are wholly individual.

Each court card represents a different angelic choir- Seraphim, Dominions, Ophanim, and more... rendered with entirely unique character art per deck. Every edition is housed in an ultra-premium German paper tuck, foil-stamped inside and out, manufactured by Boschiero & Newton in Italy.

Celestial Sophia shimmers in rose and teal, printed with pure silver and azure metallic inks by USPCC. It evokes mystery, patience, and insight—heavenly knowledge made manifest.

Celestial Fulgida blazes with gold and rose gold inks, symbolizing divine justice and the raw brilliance of truth.

Celestial Amor Dei, the rarest in the series (just 775 copies), is wrapped in holographic foil from edge to edge, both on the cards and the gilding, and is a Kickstarter exclusive.

Prequel and Sequel Playing Cards

Rediscover the magic of hand-drawn storytelling with Room One's latest deck with the charm of early animation. Currently funding on Kickstarter, this project pays homage to the Golden Age of Animation through expressive, era-authentic design and a sense of unsettling nostalgia.

The deck follows a lovable canine protagonist as he rides the emotional highs and lows of life... a rollercoaster rendered in richly illustrated custom pips and suits. 

Every element captures the spirit of classic cartoons, celebrating the creativity and emotion that defined the dawn of animated cinema.

Available in two editions- Prequel and Sequel, each features its own visual motifs and custom seal. For collectors, limited Gilded Editions of both versions will be printed based on campaign demand, making them rare, ephemeral tributes to an era when characters danced across the screen frame by frame.
