Smoke & Mirrors v8 (Green Edition) Playing Cards

Now available in green with more colors releasing soon. A new color variant to Card Mafia‘s reimagined Smoke & Mirrors V8 Collection was released last week on dananddave.com. 

Similar to the previous reimagined editions, the linework on these cards is just beautiful. Illustrated by hand by Si Scott for Dan and Dave, the cards feature an updated back design based on the original edition released in 2008, complete with minimal court cards, custom jokers, and an intricate ace of spades. 

The faces and back feature an exquisite metallic ink. The elegant design is iconic among collectors, magicians, and card aficionados alike. 

Three Editions are available- Standard Edition, Standard Edition signed by D&D, or Deluxe Edition housed inside an oversized magnetic box. The Deluxe Edition features a unique tuck case with a one-of-a-kind structure consisting of a magnetic opener.

First Look: Grid Series Four- Typographic Playing Cards by Luke Wadey

Coming this week on Kickstarter! Grid Series Four picks up from Luke Wadey‘s popular GS3, bringing an all-new design and neon green aesthetic. A typographic deck, the faces are unconventional and will truly stand out in your collection, the value being displayed in numerous different ways, each card holding 17 pieces of individual information!

Instead of traditional pips, you will now get bold graphics text and numbers combined with subtle details, each time you look at the card you’ll discover a new way to read it, a trait recognizable from Luke’s previous work now.

With full-bleed faces in pure black and red, the card back also makes use of a full-bleed graphic, the white and green combining to create a minimal aesthetic that still packs a punch when in fans or spreads. Distinctive jokers and ad cards make up the 56 card deck total.

The new-look tuck forms the base for the new Grid decks going forward, a consistent style will now be created so the new generation of typographic decks works even better together as a suite.

The deck will be printed by Cartamundi on Slimline stock with B9 True linen finish. The Kickstarter campaign launches on the 14th of April at 14:04 BST and comes loaded with exclusive bundles and competitive pricing making this a campaign to continue the legacy of Luke’s previous Grid decks which are now pretty much sold out worldwide, with GS1 being Luke’s first-ever funded deck.

First Look at Mucha Playing Cards

The Mucha Playing Cards is a new project by TCC Playing Cards inspired by the work of a master artist- Alphonse Mucha. He is a well-known Czech painter well-known for his gorgeous Art Nouveau style and the designer of the first Czech postage stamps and early banknotes.

Even if you do not know the story behind the artwork, just the charming appearance of the artwork itself would cause one to be mesmerized. This personal style is known in Japan as “ミュシャ style”, which combines style elements of the East and West. The elegant depiction of silhouettes and contours in Japanese prints. The rich colors and geometric decorative effects of Byzantine-style art. The delicate and sensual depictions of Baroque-style art.

In terms of the playing cards themselves, TCC has crafted a luxurious deck to match. The artwork on the face cards reflects Alphonse Mucha’s strong personal style and can be described to be a combination of Eastern and Western art. Influenced by Japanese Ukiyo-e, with sensual moldings, brief silhouettes, and crisp watercolor effects. The rich colors and geometric decorative effects of Byzantine-style art. The art is pure, direct, undisguised, and beautiful!

The one-way back design features stunning foil added to certain parts of the design in colors corresponding to the tone of the card. 

The decks are kept packaged in a tuck case printed on high-quality pearlescent paper. The fine pearlescent particles give it an excellent texture. The embossing outlines the beautiful characters and enhances the illustrations on the tuck box.

There will be five editions available during the Kickstarter campaign:

Two Standard Edition (Gismonda Standard Gold and Princess Hyacinth Standard Silver). Both decks feature full illustrations on the card face, index with no pips, gorgeous pearl paper tuck box with foil, luxurious metallic ink, and redesigned custom tuck seal.

Two Limited Holo Editions (Job Holo Blue and Reverie Holo Green). The decks are only available as boxed sets and showcase full laser HOLO illustrations on the face cards, index with no pips, gorgeous pearl paper tuck box with foil, stunning metallic ink, and custom numbered tuck seals (limited to 500 each).

One Special Edition (Zodiac). The deck comes with full illustrations on the card face, index with no pips, a gorgeous pearl paper tuck box with foil, and redesigned custom tuck seal.

All 5 editions share the same illustrations on the face cards. Only the box and back designs are different. Pledge starts at $15 on Kickstarter (scheduled to launch on the 13th of April).
