Stepping into the world of Human Garden is akin to unearthing a forbidden, ancient tome from the dust of a forgotten era. Designed by Yixian and Lunzi and produced by ARK, this deck of playing cards masterfully blends Cthulhu-inspired bio-horror with intricate art to visualize an ecosystem where humanity is rewritten by parasitic fungi and alien evolution.

Like all ARK decks, the centerpiece of the project is the innovative tuck case, which functions as a structural narrative device. With its magnetic, hardcover-style shell and simulated page edges, the packaging feels less like a card box and more like a mysterious, unearthed artifact.
Inside, the 12 court cards serve as a biological record, tracing the evolution of a new lifeform through four chilling stages: embryo, skeleton, limbs, and humanoid. The faces retain traditional indices but mirror the aesthetic of an old storybook, reinforcing the deck's identity as a fragmented, scientific archive.
A standout technical achievement is the Ethereal HOLO finish. By opting for a subtle, semi-transparent holographic sheen rather than a standard mirror-like foil, the designers successfully preserve the integrity of the hand-drawn charcoal linework and tactile paper texture.
Every element of the deck, from the Seven Deadly Sins-inspired back design to the tentacled Ace of Spades, is thoughtfully planned to evoke an unsettling yet captivating sense of the unknown. It is a rare, cohesive experience that forces collectors to question where human biology ends and the garden begins.
Whether through the standard Forbidden Book edition or the museum-grade Wooden Boxset, this release represents a peak in high-concept, narrative-driven card design. It strikes a perfect balance between haunting storytelling and premium craftsmanship.
Currently live on Kickstarter with rewards starting at $29.90, this project offers a limited window into a truly alien world.
