Deck View: Mana V3 Sybil Livida Playing Cards

To magicians, cardists, and collectors, "Sybil" is synonymous with the iconic card flourish that laid the foundation for many modern cardistry techniques. In 2014, this flourish inspired the Oracle Cut, a creation of Erik Mana, showcased in the Joker card of the original Oracle deck. 

The Sybil Livida edition features a gorgeous grey/blue metallic ink design. This color brings a distinct elegance, making the Livida a truly unique. The faces are classical and yet... different, especially the indexes and custom court cards. The colors are deep and rich and the courts are accented with gold metallic ink. And the jokers showcase Sybil herself.

Dapper NOC Playing Cards

The Dapper NOC Playing Cards is a collaboraton between Vanishing Inc.and House of Playing Cards. They have meticulously crafted a deck that caters perfectly to both magicians and card enthusiasts. 

Like the Dapper Deck, the Dapper NOCs also integrate the signature damask pattern. It is featured on the gorgeous, large pip Aces, as well as on the inside of the side-opening tuck box. The back design is maroon with a light black border which makes the cards look crisp and immaculate when they are spread or fanned.

Egyptian Mythology Playing Cards by FC Designs

Spain-based playing cards brand, FC Designs, had made a few custom design playing cards. For their latest project, they take you on a discovery of the most celebrated ancient civilization of all time- Egypt Mythology Playing Cards.

There are two main editions available during the Kickstarter campaign: Standard and Black. The Standard Edition features two-way illustrations, designed to be as close towards the standard deck, but with custom artworks. The Black Edition features one-way courts with a darker color scheme. Both cards feature a stunning hot foil gold color.

The tuck box features premium matte stock with gold foil and embossing. The front side features a magnificent grand view of the Egyptian temple for the Standard Edition, while the Black Edition features the goddess Maat spreading her wings. The back side features the mirror of the card’s back design. There are various color options that you can choose: Red, Blue, Black or White for the Standard Edition; Green or Black for the Black Edition.

The back design is a two-way illustration of a grand Egyptian mural within their temple, with the central element showing the bust of Nefertiti. There are arrays of Egyptian symbols, textures, and carvings: presenting the rich culture of Ancient Egypt as its finest.

The pips are customized for this deck: the center of each pip is equipped with an important Egyptian symbol. The Ace of Spades features the power pip designed as the goddess Maat forming her wings in the shape of the pip, showing the pharaoh inside. 

The courts feature a selection of very important deities in Ancient Egypt, and they are grouped according to their personalities and characteristics. In Standard Edition, the courts are drawn in two ways, showcasing rich colors along with their names. In Black Edition, the courts are drawn one way and within a frame on the background, shown as stone reliefs’ lookalike.

Whispering Imps Limited Edition (Imp Red) Gamesters Playing Cards

Red. Classic. Luxury.

The Limited Edition Gamesters are the ultra-luxury version of the Standard Edition Whispering Imps Gamesters. The “Imp Red” back design comes with the branded “WI” Logo stamped directly onto each playing card in Silver foil, centred at each end of the card.

The innovative face cards allow right and left-handed players to peek at their hand from any corner. The Ace of Spades is inspired by many of the classic New York Consolidated Card Company designs that were printed in the late 1800’s.

The tuck box features a glossy black & silver foil finish, red inks and deep precision embossing. The white decorative elements on the front of the tuck box are embossed through the inked artwork creating a beautiful effect.

La Mouche Playing Cards

Elettra Deganello is back with another interesting Kickstarter project, La Mouche Playing Cards. The deck is based on the multiple meanings of the word “mouche”. While it directly translates to “fly” when referring to the insect, it can also indicate the mole found in human appearance, which is said to be an artificial beauty mark that gained popularity in France and Europe in the 16th century. Since the word is related to France, the deck is designed with French elements heavily implied to the deck.

There are two main editions available during the campaign: Blanche and Noire. The former is the standard edition, while the latter is the luxurious limited edition. The tuck box for Blanche features high-quality white cotton paper stock that is designed to look like an envelope. It includes the letter-pressed graphic. The tuck box for Noire features premium black stock with red, silver and white hot foil complete with embossing. It is designed as a sideway tuck complete with a custom numbered seal.

The cards will have a variety of back designs. It showcases a light-hearted pattern of daisies. It can also be stars, flies, or alternate representations of flowers. The cards for La Mouche Noire will be gilded with silver metallic foil.

The Aces are customized to showcase different idioms. These idioms feature the word “mouch” as a fly insect. The courts are beautiful illustrations of the royal courts with either there is a fly buzzing around or moles spotted on their facade. The indices are inspired by Tarot Noveau, with the courts using the initials from the courts name in French.

The Number Cards are transformed into semi-transformative cards. Most will feature beautiful illustrations that incorporate the pips of the cards. A few will have a series of texts – inspired by the “secondary use cards” of the old, where cards can be used as writing material. Overall, it is a whimsical design infused with French designs.

This year’s 52 Plus Joker club deck is a collab between the talented Brendan Hong and Will Kalush of the Expert Playing Card Company. The 2023 Club Deck has been masterfully crafted and is a true embodiment of the world’s greatest playing card collector’s association.

Jetsetter Lounge Edition (Jetway Silver) Playing Cards

The Jetway Silver edition is part of the Jetsetter Lounge series by Jetsetter Playing Cards. Inside, the classic backs showcase a classy silver colorway with the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo within the pattern. Additionally, the spade logo on the back design has been replaced in a non-traditional way but still in a two-way vintage casino-style design.

The courts are re-colored to match the look and feel of the Lounge Edition deck with a vintage style of red, black, and gold. The custom Ace of Spades exhibits the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo in the Jet Black colorway.

Jetsetter Lounge Edition Playing Cards Now in Black Colorway

Jetsetter Playing Cards has just launched the fourth and final version of the Lounge Edition series in a tarmac black colorway on Kickstarter. The brand continues to exhibit a vintage and classy feel but with modern appeal and has hit its stretched goal of $10k unlocking the MARKED back standard deck.

For the Kickstarter campaign, the classy back design showcases the Tarmac Black colorway, inspired by the runway tarmac before you take flight. The airplane pattern appears with the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo within the pattern. The spade logo on the back design can be found in an offset two-way vintage casino-style design.

The custom Ace of Spades exhibits the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo in the Tarmac Black colorway. The courts are pretty much standard but re-colored to match the look and feel of the Lounge Edition deck in the black colorway. 

All the black cards, spades, and clubs, showcase black, and silver court cards. The red cards, hearts, and diamonds seem standard. These are re-colored as well. The court cards actually showcase a vintage style of deep red, black, and gold.

Additionally, the iconic round-trip boarding passes which have become the trademark Jokers for Jetsetter Playing Cards have been revamped and modernized. The Jokers differ from other Lounge Edition decks.

The tuck box is produced with a synthetic stock providing durability beyond the standard tuck box. The tuck features a clear UV spot coating and the main Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logos on the tuck are accented with silver foil.

Designed by Karin Yan of Bona fide Playing Cards, the Alexandre Dumas Classics’ Playing Cards are a tribute to one of the most popular masterpieces by the French Writer: The Three Musketeers.

The Three Musketeers edition depicts a story of courage, honor, ambition, friendship and treason. Fully custom, the deck portrays a simple yet detailed image of the characters and the story featuring illustrations of the main characters. The court cards represent the most meaningful characters of the story and the back and tuck are inspired by book bindings of the 17th century, featuring characteristic and meaningful elements of the story.

Kings Wild‘s Silver Certificate Foiled Edition playing cards is the third deck in the currency-inspired series. The deck is inspired by US Silver Certificate Banknotes of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

This fully custom deck features hand-drawn renditions of the presidents and other key figures found on US currency and comes with multi-colored foil.

UC X Jack Brutus Penny- Nazo Nazo Playing Cards

After acquiring the United Cardists forum last year, Portfolio52 released the successful Odd Fellows playing cards series in collaboration with Stockholm17 as part of the UC annual deck. This year, the annual deck will be designed by Jack Brutus Penny. Based in Japan, Jack is known for his artwork inspired by animals and Japanese culture.

Nazo Nazo Playing Cards shows the fantastic Japanese inn crowded with anthropomorphized animals integrated into a large-scale mural. You would see all the cute characters doing some activities within the interiors of the inn done in large illustrations segmented as small pieces of cards. The name of the series, “Nazo Nazo” literally means “puzzles and riddles” in Japanese – this deck of cards has a lot to offer: jigsaw puzzles, word puns, proverbs, stories, and visual scavenger hunts.

There are three editions of Nazo Nazo available during the Kickstarter campaign – Guest House, Tatami Room, and Onsen. Each edition will have completely different artwork on both the cards and the tuck boxes, but everything is all Jack’s heart and soul.

The Guest House is the standard edition of the series, which is only printed on standard stock and finishes. The Tatami House is called the puzzle edition, promising a deck of cards fashioned to be full of puzzles and riddles. The Onsen House is the exclusive Kickstarter edition featuring cards gilded with beautiful gold foil.

The tuck boxes for the series themselves are masterpieces of their own. It is made with premium stock with the unique shape of a tongue flap and die-cut windows across faces and sides. These windows allow you to view the integration of the card back design with the artwork on the tuck box.

The artworks on the box are intricate and full of details, showing the beautiful rooms that represent the name of the edition. It does have customized embossing on the artwork, and most prominently, the holographic foiling for the clouds on the box. The artwork on the side creates an interesting display – getting one of each of the editions, you create half of the building; combining two sets altogether and you will have the full picture of the Nazo Nazo inn.

The characters who appeared within the large mural of the cards featured pets owned by various people who are experts in some of their fields in Japanese culture, like origami, pottery, horseback archery, calligraphy, and more. The profits from the project’s outcome will be given to Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK) to help rescue and rehouse abandoned and displaced cats and dogs in Japan.

Priory playing cards by Encarded features bold colors and modern sweeping lines. Inspired by a small fresco motif found in a French church built in the 13th century, the deck is truly eye-catching. The repeated and rotated combination creates a visual riot of movement that draws the eye back and forth across the design.

The faces are fully custom, with unique pips and a modern typeface, while the courts feature a bold “reversed” look with intense pinks, reds, and blacks. The Primary Edition is numbered 1-1500 and sealed with a custom holographic seal. The tuck box is printed on a heavy-duty gloss white cardstock with embossing and full coverage inks that highlight the bold, primary colors of the Priory.

52 Plus Joker 2022 Club Deck Revealed!

The Joker Plus 52 2022 club deck was revealed yesterday by William Kalush of Expert Playing Card Company on the first day of the 52 Plus Joker Convention 2022 held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The elegant deck is created by Jody Eklund exclusively for 52 Plus Joker. This limited edition deck is a superb deck that embodies the world’s greatest playing card collector’s club.

Inside, the deck features a borderless card back design, fully customized regal and refined courts, and jokers.

Stunning full flood foil has been used on both sides of the cards, making them look incredibly stunning.

The deck is kept secured in a tuck box made of soft-touch stock that has pillow-like embossing. You will notice a special laser-cut, custom-shaped band wrapper with gold foil around the tuck box.

Republic Playing Cards

Released in 2021, REPUBLIC Playing Cards is the first UUSI playing card since 2016. This custom design deck is based on Finnish/Nordic folk art and design.

The deck sports a predominant beige/black colorway with a seamless pattern inspired by traditional Finnish design on the card back. The court cards, Ace of Spades and Jokers are fully custom yet at the same time very familiar and immediately recognizable.

Only 48 Hours Remaining! Jerry's Nugget (Marked Monotone) Playing Cards

Three NEW Jerry’s Nuggets are NOW available on Kickstarter for the FINAL 48 hours. For this release, the Conjuring Arts and Riffle Shuffle collab Jerry’s will be factory marked and released to the public for the FIRST TIME ever!

In 1970, Jerry’s Nugget Casino in Las Vegas printed what would become one of the most collectible playing card decks ever manufactured by the United States Playing Card Company. They made them for the tables but opted not to use them and put them in storage for 20 years! in the late 90s, these cards sold out, yet the demand continued to grow. Today, authentic original Jerry’s Nugget cards are among the most desirable and expensive modern decks on the market.

Three new colorways will be available during this campaign: Icy Blue (suit marked), Atomic Red (suit marked), and Felt Green (suit & value marked). This new colorway creates the iconic Jerry’s Nugget back design, blending a timeless look with a modern aesthetic. Using a single hue against the white cardstock helps all the intricate details of the design POP. This particular monochromatic approach also helps in hiding the unique marking system.

There are two secret systems; one for suites and the other for value. The Icy Blue and Atomic Red cards are marked to identify suits only.

The Felt Green cards enable you to determine both the value and suit of any given card. According to the campaign page,

After testing a handful of ideal marking systems, we chose two easily read versions. Each of them is a marriage of form and function. We call them the Tower Marking Systems. And with a bit of memorization and a few minutes of practice, you’ll be able to read the backs of the cards without hesitation.

Limited Edition Memento Mori Holographic Playing Cards
