Kickstarter: Steve Minty's HANA Playing Cards Campaign Underway

Just launched on Kickstarter, HANA luxury playing cards is an original set of decks designed by Steve Minty. These decks are inspired by the unique elegance of traditional Japanese culture.

Elements from aspects of textile, art, and social structures are incorporated into this deck along with Steve's design sensibilities to make these different from what he has done before.

According to Steve,

As always, I work on projects that I have a connection to on a personal level. I knew since I first started designing playing cards that I wanted to work on a deck that revolved around Japanese culture. To do so, I traveled to Japan to research as well as gain some insight and inspiration. It was an unforgettable experience but I merely scratched the surface. In the span of 3 years, I spent countless hours on research, scoured through books ranging from Japanese society to samurai armor and even attended a few museum exhibits for the sake of this project.

The end result is truly beautiful. It draws upon the history of playing cards in Japan as well as the art that makes them special. Aspects of Feudal Japan, Hana Fuda, Kimonos, Ikebana, Ukiyo-e among others are incorporated into the decks.

HANA Playing Cards will be available in two editions: Silver and Gold. Both decks are unique and fully customized. Available NOW on Kickstarter. Pledge starts from $15 and add-ons such as uncut sheets and dealer coins are available.

First Look: SINS Playing Cards by Thirdway Industries Part I

Here's an exclusive first look at the new SINS Playing Cards series from designer Giovanni Meroni of Thirdway Industries. Recently, Thirdway's website was updated with a teaser and several images of the court cards from SINS. This has generated excitement amongst fans and card aficionado alike.

According to Giovanni,

SINS will be a three decks project, with one limited and two unlimited. The 2 "unlimited" decks are SINS CORPUS and SINS MENTIS - the limited deck is SINS ANIMA.

For the next few weeks leading up to the launch of the project, we will reveal the details of each deck in the SINS series. This week we have SINS CORPUS, on of the "unlimited" deck in the series. SINS CORPUS is based on Sins that influence the body.

Each suit represents a unique theme. For example, the Diamonds represent wrath, Clubs is Gluttony, Spades represents Sloth and Hearts is Lust.

As such, each court embodies a unique take of that theme.

Join us next week when we look at the second deck in the SINS series, the SINS MENTIS! The provisional launch date for the campaign will be 18 February 2017. Stay tuned!
