PlayingCardDecks Releases Bicycle (Faro Edition) Playing Cards

Produced by Will Roya at PlayingCardDecks with artwork by Azured Ox, the Bicycle Faro Edition playing cards is a throwback to the old playing card decks from the 1800s.

The deck sports a familiar Bicycle-branded tuck box, which incorporates the iconic "Bicycle" brand logo and the word "Faro Edition".

Inside, the face cards with the exception of the Ace of Spades and Jokers are pretty much standard but with no numbers to indicate the value of the card.

Suit symbols are large and the pips are easily recognizable. It will take a while to get used to the deck without the numbered index during card games... but you will hardly notice it after a few games.

For the working magician, the deck comes with a card reveal on the inside tuck flap and Joker. 2 gaff cards are also included for magic routines.

Deck View: Navigator Playing Cards

Theory11 continues to reinforcing the company's focus on custom playing cards this year with the release of Navigators Playing Cards. Released in January 2019, the nautical-themed deck features the artwork of New York-based designer, Matthew Smith (Dribble: @mttymtt).

The deck features a fully custom design from the card backs prominently showcasing the traditional ship's wheel, custom aces with ornamentation, to the barrel jokers, and the royals printed in gold metallic ink. The deck is kept secure in a gorgeous custom white tuck with Gold Foil accents and embossing as well as a gold foil optical illusion pattern that embellishes the interior.

Overall, a nice offering from Theory11 but not the best deck compared to their previous releases. The quality is what we’ve come to expect from Theory11, but the artwork is slightly underwhelming in particular the court cards. However, don't let that stop you from picking up this cool deck. Art of Play Released The Cardistry-Con 2018 Video, and It Is AWESOME!

Art of Play just released the official Cardistry-Con 2018 video! The yearly conference organized by a passionate group of individuals from across the globe. In 2018 the 5th annual meetup was held in Hong Kong from September 21st - 23rd.

Kickstarter: Helheim Playing Cards by Design Imperator

Danish team Design Imperator is currently funding Helheim Playing Cards on Kickstarter. With less than 6 days to go, the project has already hit its funding goal within 6 hours of the campaign launch. Helheim Playing Cards is a fully custom Norse war-themed deck and is the successor to Design Imperator's previous release, Ragnorak Playing Cards.

Two decks are on offer during the campaign, Herja (To Wage War) and Nidhug (Corpse Eater). The Herka tuck sports a dark grey colorway with a blood-red seal. The card backs are dark red with metallic silver ink. The tuck case is manufactured with a solid, ash-grey stock with intricate, embossed artwork, hot stamped with silver foil and spot UV.

Meanwhile, Nidhug is the black edition with an oak brown tuck seal. The card backs are black with metallic silver ink. The tuck case is manufactured with a solid, black stock and has embossing, silver foil and spot UV on the case.

The face cards on both decks feature Vikings of Norse mythology. All illustrations are meticulously hand-drawn by professional artist Nicolai Aarøe. His artwork continues to inspire and capture the essence of Norse mythology.

The dark tone of the deck highlight drama, the intensity of an epic battle. The diptych jokers featuring the massive battle at the fields of Vigridr.

The card backs of Helheim Playing Cards showcase Norse artwork inspired from original knotwork and wood carving designs, both set in a 2-way composition. Both decks have a classic layout of pips and indexes, reimagined in Norse style. Also, the aces of Helheim Playing Cards feature illustrations depicting the massive assaults by Hel's army.

The decks will be printed by NPCC with premium linen finish and pledge starts at DKK$89 (~USD$14) on Kickstarter.
