Theory11 continues to reinforcing the company’s focus on custom playing cards this year with the release of Navigators Playing Cards. Released in January 2019, the nautical-themed deck features the artwork of New York-based designer, Matthew Smith (Dribble: @mttymtt).
The deck features a fully custom design from the card backs prominently showcasing the traditional ship’s wheel, custom aces with ornamentation, to the barrel jokers, and the royals printed in gold metallic ink. The deck is kept secure in a gorgeous custom white tuck with Gold Foil accents and embossing as well as a gold foil optical illusion pattern that embellishes the interior.
Overall, a nice offering from Theory11 but not the best deck compared to their previous releases. The quality is what we’ve come to expect from Theory11, but the artwork is slightly underwhelming in particular the court cards. However, don’t let that stop you from picking up this cool deck.
