On Kickstarter, The Guide Playing Cards

Just launched on Kickstarter, The Guide playing cards is an intriguing deck conceptualized Dmitry Kost of Broken Key Production (Instagram: @brokenkeyprojection) in collaboration with designer Edo Huang.

The deck is inspired by the mysteries and curiosities from across the globe. According to Dmitry,

I have long been a fan of mysteries and curiosities from across the globe and one oddity that stuck with me was the story of the Lighthouse Man from Chung Tsing. It was a very odd tale about a man who guided soldiers though his city by the light of a candle that was apparently stuck in the man’s head in an actual hole. Whether he was so committed to lit streets or just bade the best of an unfortunate predicament he was in, the story stuck with me and culminated in the idea of The Guide Playing Cards.

Inside, the Back design features the skull of the Lighthouse man, his candle alight guiding still those seeking passage in the night. The background framed in an exquisite frame depicts the night sky and the center of the back design is crowned by the ultimate guide of all, the Northern Star.

The faces (including the courts) have been simplified and recolored to a very aristocratic red along with a deep gold metallic ink! The cards will feature the second queen of spades with a Two of Hearts Reveal. This will serve as a duplicate as well as a revelation.

The Jokers will feature a candle alight and extinguished for an additional effect that can be done with the cards.

The tuck box is really one of the highlights of this deck. Printed by Clove St Press with a letter-pressed skull and foil stamped flame to give the box that tasty glint. For the working magician, there will be a reveal which will be foil stamped on the inside of the box with a Seven of Clubs reveal at the bottom of the box. Spectators can open the box and immediately see the guide leading them to the prediction in eye-catching gold to make the reveal memorable!

The Guide playing cards will be printed by the USPCC on the popular crushed stock. Pledge starts at $12 on Kickstarter.

Peau Doux Turquoise Playing Cards

Performance. Pegasus. Replica.

The limited-edition deck of Cardini’s Peau Doux playing cards in turquoise colorway was released by Art of Play late last year. This deck of cards was famously used by Cardini throughout his career and is a modern poker-sized replica of the special Peau Doux playing cards Cardini used in the performance of his legendary nightclub act “The Suave Deceiver.”

The eye-catching deck features a stunning Art Deco design depicting a series of five concentric arcs from the top left-hand corner to the bottom right-hand corner of the card. Like the previous editions, the deck prominently showcases the iconic image of the winged horse Pegasus, emerging from the arc.

The courts and the card backs are printed with metallic ink, creating a striking and elegant modern look! Also, special features include a vintage-inspired tuck box, letterpress-printed with gold metallic ink, and embossed typography.

F For Fulton Playing Cards

This commemorative deck of playing cards was designed specifically for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of FULTON’S Playing Cards as a companion piece to “Clip Joint 10” with an updated history and narrative companionship:

In the late 1970s the Magic Bar & Club known as “F for Fulton” was born. Los Angeles is known for The Magic Castle–but many forget that ‘F for Fulton” was a popular spot for many underground magicians- as well as the first place The Buck Twins tested the room for Cardistry as child performers.

Known for good times, smoky rooms, and their signature drink, The Sunset Blvd, this place was too good to last forever. Here at Fulton’s we have the last known supply of their house playing cards. Sure to be your favorite deck, “F for Fulton” -remember that.

This deck will be the FIRST of the CLUB 37 Series. Over the next few years, Fulton’s will be producing numerous decks that pay tribute to the origins of custom playing card decks. Exciting!

The back design pays homage to one of Fulton’s favorite decks (and magician), Tom Mullica’s Tom Foolery. Inside, the face cards are pretty much standard.

Limited to 700 decks, F for Fulton and other CLUB 37 Classics come housed in a commemorative in a burgundy colorway with a metallic gold tuck printed on vintage letterpress machines. The tuck is a “Fultonized” take on the original Custom Division Tuck used decades ago by the US Playing Card Co. Available now for $17 on fultonsplayingcards.com.

Also available is the F for Fulton After Hours Edition for $52. According to the product page,

This is the official CLUB 37 Edition of F for Fulton sold to members of this unique and bizarre club.

The AFTER HOURS edition is printed on deep black stock accentuated by metallic gold Pantone letterpressed ink. Sealed with the EXCLUSIVE Club 37 Seal. Limited edition of 150.
