ROYAL PLAYERS Playing Cards

ROYAL PLAYERS Playing Cards from Oath Playing Cards is a darkly elegant limited-edition deck created as a real-world production test for a new printing partner. While the project serves as a technical evaluation aimed at helping designer Lotrek increase production capacity and reduce delays, the deck itself is presented as a complete standalone release rather than a prototype or “test print.”

The artwork was intentionally designed to remain visually strong and fully functional even if the new printer’s registration accuracy did not perfectly match Oath’s usual standards. Printed on metallic bronze stock, the deck combines rich metallic surfaces with layered foil treatments throughout. The backs feature both port wine and gold foils, while the faces include gold foil detailing paired with Oath’s latest reinterpretation of classic court cards. The tuck box continues the luxurious presentation with dual foils and embossed finishes.

Despite being framed as an experimental production, ROYAL PLAYERS maintains the haunting, refined visual identity that defines Oath Playing Cards releases. The project also offers collectors a somewhat accessible entry point into Lotrek’s premium catalogue, delivering high-end materials and finishes at a lower price than many of the company’s more elaborate editions.

Available for $65 on Oath Playing Cards.

RUBAIYAT Players Playing Cards

From the backs to the face cards, the designs balance symmetry, luxury, and meaning, creating a deck that feels both timeless and contemporary. But what truly sets this deck apart is its tuck case. According to the product page, the tuck carries an innovative surprise feature never before seen in playing cards.

On Kickstarter, Monte Carlo Diffractor Playing Cards

Currently funding on Kickstarter, the stunning Diffractor series continues with 'Monte Carlo Diffractor'. For this edition of the Diffractor City Series, VXD International has teamed up with Lotrek, of Oath Playing Cards.

This is the third edition in the Diffractor city series, which will comprise of 10 cities, to be released one edition per year. The Monte Carlo Diffractor showcases an amalgamation of VXD's artistic and technical strengths.

All the decks on offer feature the use of transparent holographic, which is a patented treatment for playing cards. From the Kickstarter page,

For those unfamiliar with how this sets our decks apart from ALL other holographic decks on the market, the holographic we use (on all the card fronts in this case) are TRANSPARENT and can be applied over any ink artwork of any color and still maintain visibility of the inks below, creating a 2-layer artwork of inks and holographic.

All other holographic decks on the market use holographic foils with traditional opaque silver backing, which means behind the holographics themselves is only ever silver. The layer construction of VXD's playing cards can be better understood in the graphic below:

For this edition, the VXD has changed things up slightly over the last editions and gone for traditional silver-backing holographic on the backs of the playing cards and the tucks, with the more subtle and versatile transparent holographic reserved for card fronts.

3 decks are on offer- Riviera, Grimaldi, and Blackjack. All 3 comes with Traditional (Silver-Backed) Holographics, Metal Foil, and Inks on the beautiful card backs. Pledge starts at $52 on Kickstarter.

Endless Time Luxury Dark Playing Cards on Kickstarter

Endless Time Playing Cards are back with a new edition with a luxurious look and feel. The new edition now sports a darker colorway adorned in antique gold foil.

According to founder Aleksander Feldman on the Kickstarter Campaign page,
Since the release of the First Edition of Endless Time Cards I have been thinking to expand the series. Not just a recolor, but an updated design with a twist!

The artwork was created in Estonia with the help of designer Dennis Kostroman. The card backs have a new design element that was created specifically for the Endless Time theme. This is consistent across the backs and the updated tuck box.

The faces and backs will have an antique gold metallic ink to give it a luxurious touch. There is some enhancement to the face cards as well. Aleksander said,
I have also processed enough feedback and came to a conclusion to update Endless Time suits. The infinity symbol looks perfectly built-in into suit shapes making suits easy to read while performing magic tricks!

The deck is kept secure in a dark tuck box with stunning antique gold foil, embossed by Oath Playing Cards in Greece.

Endless Time Luxury Dark Playing Cards will be printed on Slim-Line stock and premium B9 finish by Cartamundi. Pledge starts at $12 on Kickstarter.

Kickstarter: CHARMERS Playing Cards by Lortrek

Lotrek has a knack for creating beautiful, functional deck of playing cards. His latest deck is no different. CHARMERS Playing Cards is a collab between award-winning designer Lotrek and South Carolina based magician Kellar O'Neil. A truly uniquely elegant deck of playing cards, evoking the art, luxury, and taste of the Victorian Era.

Designed from the ground up, the deck is ideal for magicians, playing card collectors and enthusiasts alike. According to the campaign page,
We believe that an "all-purpose" deck meant to be used by magicians and players with different tastes should have instantly recognizable courts. Everything in the deck is custom and the courts are Lotrek's interpretation of the traditional ones with an "old times" twist to match the vintage feel of the deck.

Inside the court cards feature gold cold foil and metallic inks in a combination devised by Lotrek so that the sheen will be somewhat toned down in order to match the "old times" feel of the deck. To give it a visual boost, the figure cards include luxurious gold cold foil.

The mesmerizing card backs are printed with a combination of cold foil, 2 Pantone colors and metallic inks, showcasing an elegant, classic design. The design of the backs has been carried over to the eye-catching Ace of Spades. Love how the design elements came together on this one!

The tuck cases will be printed in Greece by OathPlayingCards. Two different editions are on offer during the campaign- Green Edition and Purple Edition. Both feature gold foil black ink on colored stock (green and purple) and very deep embossing.

CHARMERS are printed by Cartamundi in Belgium on their proprietary Slimline stock with True Linen B9 finish. Pledge starts at $17 on Kickstarter!

Also, the RED CHARMERS will be included as a gift for the brick reward tier! Lotrek will print these in his facilities in Greece and only 250 Charmers will be produced. These will be printed on German 310gsm casino grade stock, will have a very shiny metallic gold and new varnish, Maestro V2! The deck signed and numbered, will be added for free to ALL Brick tiers

Chronos Playing Cards To Release Tomorrow!

Lotrek first announced Chronos Playing Cards during the 2019 52 Plus Joker Annual Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Hilton Charlotte University Place. As the name suggests, the theme of the beautiful deck is time.

Collectors or fans of Lotrek will recognize the familiar card back design, as it is based on Lotrek's first deck, 'Timeless'. The deck is fully custom from the pips, jokers to the court cards and Ace of Spades. All this while keeping the traditional elements of playing cards in place.

The beautiful tuck box is printed on double color pearlescent stock. What makes this deck really unique is that the tucks look like as if there were discovered in an attic where they had been forgotten for decades. Accroding to Lotrek,
What makes the deck unique though (apart from the fact that it's my first deck without a delay) is that each and every tuck case is different. My partner Melania Damianou has "aged" the tuck cases -which are printed on watercolor paper- using a mixed media technique.

They are only 220 Collector's edition decks in total, some of them were sold in 52plus joker convention and there will be another 180 available from Lotrek's website on Saturday at 10:00am NY time.

The 52 Plus Joker Club Deck- The Entertainer

The fifth 52 Plus Joker Club deck was presented at the 52 Plus Joker Annual Convention by none other than Lotrek! This year, the 2-time 52 Plus Joker Diamond Award winner has designed a stunning deck- The Entertainer.

The Club Deck is being offered to attendees of this years 52 Plus Joker Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Hilton Charlotte University Place. The convention draws a huge following from all corners of the globe and you would be hard pressed to find a larger collection of vintage playing cards and related items under one roof.

The eye-catching deck features an embossed tuck case with gold and silver foil accents. The cards are just as spectacular, with the same gold and silver foil used on the intricate card backs and face cards. On the inspiration, Lotrek said,
Because of the time period, I found the perfect wrapping for everything was my love for American typography and graphic design of the late 19th - early 20th century. More specifically, as typography appeared in sheet music covers. This artistic guideline gave me the freedom to use a lot of text all over the deck yet in a way that hopefully people will like and appreciate.

The suits are custom and showcase the intricate design work within the symbols. Silver foil is used to decorate the black suit, while gold foil is used on the red suit. According to Lotrek, this deck feautues and "industry first",
Imagine combining both cold and hot foil printing. Yes, both foils shine. But they have different characteristics and limitations. This was purely experimental. But from my experience, I find the result to be beautiful. At the very least, hopefully you’ll find it interesting. In any case, to my knowledge, this has never been done before.

The deck also features a custom Ace of Spades, beautifully rich standard court cards and two custom Jokers depicting the 52 Plus Joker Logo.
For the courts, I trusted the long-loved standard scheme with some degree of customization. Initially, I thought to use my own take on the standard courts as a base. After some time in designing the deck though, I realized they should feel more unique and related to the era of the deck. So, I transformed them and made them look engraved to give a 19th century vibe.

Like all 52 Plus Joker club decks are available to club members only. To join 52 Plus Joker and be eligible to purchase one or more of these find decks, head to 52plusjoker.org.
