Cardistry: The Cardistry-Con Awards 2018 Nominees Announced

Each year, cardists from around the globe come together on the last day of Cardistry-Con to celebrate and honor the major achievements in cardistry each year. The Awards Ceremony bestows accolades in five fields: Deck of the Year, Move of the Year, Video of the Year, Breakout Cardist of the Year, and Cardistry-Con Champion.

Last week, the organizers put out an open call for nominations in the first four categories. Below are this year’s official nominees, based on followers votes.

Cardistry: Art of Cardistry Playing Cards Funded In 24 Hours!

Art of Cardistry, a contemporary design deck of playing cards inspired by the polygon theme has been funded in less than a day, having debuted on Kickstarter earlier this week and surpassed its HKD$60,000 (USD$7,700) goal in only 24 hours. Hong Kong-based Bocopo Playing Cards Co. managed to raise over HKD$106,764 (USD$13,700) with over 290 backers and set to run for 28 more days.

The Early Bird reward is still available for an affordable $4 per deck for the Blue Edition.

The Art of Cardistry deck is a collaboration between Bocopo Playing Cards Co and Kevin Yu crafted specifically for the mesmerizing art of card flourishing. The contemporary design is a tribute to the mesmerizing art, the skill and to everyone that is interested in cardistry.

Every card is completely customized and redesigned to find the combination that is most suitable for cardistry with the perfect balance between flair and attention. Two editions are available, the Blue edition deck and the limited Red edition. Check it out now on Kickstarter!

Cardistry: Tickets Released for Cardistry-Con 2018. Sold Out in 30 Seconds!

Tickets for this year's Cardistry-Con went on sale early Friday morning and as expected, all 200 spots were snatched up in less than 30 seconds this year. The event this year will be held in the bustling city of Hong Kong on 21st-23rd September.

Tickets are priced at $195 this year (up $30 from last year) and a new limited VIP ticket priced at $445 was introduced this year. The price of admission is well worth it with the experience and a chance to meet and hang out with your favorite cardists from all around the world. Cardistry: MPC Beta ONE Playing Cards

As seen during Cardistry-Con 2018, Hong Kong, the MPC Beta ONE Playing Cards represents a huge milestone in the history of MPC. Every one of the 200 attendees received a deck. This was the first time anyone outside of MPC got to test out the new card stock and finish which has been in development for close to 3 years.

It is completely re-engineered and designed specifically for the mesmerizing art of Cardistry.

The concept which determined the aesthetics of this deck was created by Alex Tse who aptly named the deck called The ONE for several reasons. The design is based on the number 1. This is the 1st deck ever that uses this completely new development by MPC on playing cards. The aim was to create the best possible deck in terms of feeling and handling for performing Cardistry and card magic.

The back design is made out of two number 1’s diagonally facing each other on opposite corners. It was designed in a way that fully complements and enhances card flourishes such as card fans, springs, cuts, and spins to name just a few. A borderless design is adopted in order to accentuate each and every move performed.

The card stock used on The ONE is nothing like you’ve ever handled before. The Linen Air Light is thinner, lighter, softer and possesses the perfect level of stiffness needed for amplifying your Cardistry and card magic skills.

Meanwhile, the finish fully complements the Linen Air Light and produces a handling experience that’s nothing short of amazing. Cardistry: Cardistry-Con 2018 Playing Cards

The Cardistry-Con 2018 Playing Cards are now available on Art of Play. Released in conjunction with the event, this exclusive deck is inspired by vintage Hong Kong graphic design in red colorway. Images provided by antno. Find more of his cool images on Instagram (@antno_).

The deck is designed by Los Angeles based cardistry brand Entry. The semi-custom deck features an original custom back and ace of spades in a retro monochrome colorway.

The indices and courts are standard but recolored to match the overall color palette of the deck.

Printed by the United States Playing Card Co. on thin stock preferred by cardists. The decks are available now for $15 on ArtofPlay.com. Limited Edition of 4,000. Like previous Cardistry-Con decks, we expect these to sell out. Don't miss out!

Cardistry: ANYONE To Release Black Dot Playing Cards

The team at Anyone will be releasing the Black Dot Playing Cards on 12th February, 19:00 CET online. The Black Dot is the sequel to the highly successful Red Dot Playing Cards, released back in 2017. Red Dot won the Sybil Award at Cardistry-Con 2018 in Hong Kong for 'Cardistry Deck of the Year'.

The new deck features an off-centered black dot on a solid grey colorway back. The deck was never released for individual sale and only released in limited quantities with every brick of Checkerboard by Anyone. Check out the performance video by Anyone featuring the Black Dot Playing Cards. The video was filmed in Tokyo, Japan.

Deck View: MPC Beta ONE Playing Cards

Smooth. Engineered. Cardistry.

The MPC Beta ONE Playing Cards marked a significant milestone for MakePlayingCards, serving as the debut platform for its newly developed Linen Air Light stock and Beta finish. First distributed to attendees at Cardistry-Con 2018 in Hong Kong, the deck was created specifically to showcase MPC’s next-generation handling technology after nearly three years of development.

Designed by Alex Tse, the deck revolves around the number one, symbolizing both its name and its status as the first release to feature the new stock and finish. The minimalist back design consists of mirrored numeral “1” graphics arranged diagonally across a borderless layout, creating striking visuals during fans, spreads, cuts, and other cardistry moves.

The real focus, however, is performance. The Linen Air Light stock is thinner, lighter, and softer than traditional playing card stock while maintaining enough stiffness for flourishing and magic. Paired with MPC’s Beta finish, the deck offers a smooth handling experience with a balance of glide and grip, making it well suited for cardists seeking maximum control and visual impact.

Kickstarter: Bitcoin Playing Cards Funded in 12 Hours

Andrei Jikh and Patrick Kun announced and launched the Bitcoin Playing Cards on Kickstarter during Cardistry-Con, Hong Kong and in just under 12 hours, the project has successfully hit its funding goal of $20k. The stunning decks are designed by Billy French. Every aspect of this deck is designed to mirror the Bitcoin currency - the value, the look, the feel, and ultimately - the story.

Two decks are on offer during the campaign, the standard Black Bitcoin deck featuring a luxurious tuck box with premium soft-touch Black dyed paper, embossed and adorned with Black and Gold Foil on the exterior and interior.

The White deck will be LIMITED and contained within an acrylic puzzle box. The puzzle is a visual analogy of Bitcoin’s BLOCKCHAIN technology where one must do “proof of work” in order to solve and mine the Bitcoin Playing Cards out from the puzzle block.

Oskar Van Deventer, a Guinness World Record holder for the largest Rubik’s cube helped design the puzzle. Hundreds of combinations can exist within the puzzle.

Both decks feature custom Ace of Spades, Jokers, and card backs. The court cards, however, are kept largely the same as standard Bicycle faces but with gold metallic ink as accents!

The deck will be printed by Legends on the brand new soft Stud Paper with the Cardistry Finish. Pledge starts at $15. Check it out on Kickstarter here!
