First Look: British Monarchy Playing Cards by LUX Playing Cards

[Update] The British Monarchy Playing Cards are now LIVE on Kickstarter!

Coming soon... an elegantly crafted deck by LUX Playing Cards, the British Monarchy Playing Cards. This deck is created by Bryan Sloan, the man who brought you the gorgeous Aves playing cards. Some images of the British Monarchy playing cards have been teased on their Instagram account over the past month. But what is not known, is that the deck will be Tally-Ho branded!

When asked what motivated him to create the Tally-Ho British Monarchy deck, Bryan said,

My wife and I traveled from Texas to visit my brother who is completing a PhD at St. Andrews in Scotland. So in addition to Scotland, we visited England and Ireland, and were blown away with the history of everywhere we travelled. Seeing so many historical sites is quite moving. When you go to The Tower of London to see where Anne Boleyn was beheaded, and so many other prisoners were kept, you feel like you are experiencing history. When you touch the walls at Edinburgh Castle, you know that other royalty of ages past have done the same. I wanted to bring that same emotion to these playing cards, and I knew the only way to do that was through a Tally-Ho deck, and the art had to accurately reflect this.

The art are original and historically accurate, based upon famous British Monarchy from centuries past. Staying to tradition with the elegant Tally-Ho brand, the card back is extravagantly detailed. The back illustrates the Crown, and alludes to the War of the Roses in England. The portraits themselves of the royalty cards are intricate, while keeping the cards playable.

The tuck case features some of the most well-known features that people are already familiar with on a Tally-Ho tuck while integrating the new black and gold colors as well as the card back design. The tuck case will also feature the special raised, textured finish that was used on Aves playing cards, giving it a luxurious feel.

On the Tally-Ho theme, Bryan explained,

We wanted to ensure that this Tally-Ho British Monarchy deck is original, yet stays true to Tally-Ho themes of the past, namely the fan backs and circle backs. The Crown as the central feature on the back of this British Monarchy deck corresponds to the central figures found on both Tally-Ho fan backs and circle backs. The roses here also allude to the flowers found there as well. In addition, we added a crossing feature on the ends of the British Monarchy cards, most notably found on the circle backs. With rich flourishes to the British Monarchy card back, everything pays tribute to previous Tally-Ho decks.

The Tally-Ho British Monarch deck launches March 18, 2015, at 9am central time on Kickstarter.

Kardify would like to thank Bryan Sloan and LUX Playing Cards for the opportunity to share these exclusive images. To keep up to date on the British Monarchy deck, follow the LUX Playing Cards on their Facebook page.

Kickstarter: Emerald Tally-Ho's by Kings Wild Project

The Emerald Tally Ho's are now LIVE on Kickstarter!

At first glance the Emerald Tally Ho's by Kings Wild Project may look like a re-color, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Emerald Edition has a completely new and unique back design with a beautiful green and purple color pallet. The Emerald Edition continues the Jackson Robinson Series which began earlier this year with the Scarlett Tally Ho's. Both decks have a visual connection, as well as a family connection and eloquently go together, but at the same time stand alone as individually unique, much like the people who inspired them.

"As an artist, I feel designing cards should always be something more than just putting 56 pieces of paper in a box and call it done. Stories are what inspire me so I try to start every one of my projects with a story to tell. In the case of the Scarlett & Emerald Tally Ho decks, that story is my family. Without getting to sentimental, there is no better inspiration for me than my daughters. They are the reason I do what I do and it is a no brainer for me to create a deck that will give them something to give to their kids one day. That’s why I gave the Legacy Edition the name I did"

- Jackson Robinson

The Emerald Tally-Ho’s are scheduled to launch Saturday, May 2nd at 12:00pm Central on Kickstarter. The project will offer a variety of reward tiers appealing to a wide variety of playing card aficionados. Emerald starts with the  Limited Edition for those who just enjoy Jackson Robinson’s work and rounds off with the LTD Emerald Legacy Edition for those seeking the rare and collectable and if you want to keep that Collectable sealed, the project will once again offer display decks at a very attractive price point.

Kickstarter: Kings Wild's Emerald Tally Ho Playing Cards Funded in under 2 Minutes

Following the success of the Scarlett Tally Ho Playing Cards, Kings Wild latest Kickstarter project, the Emerald Tally Ho managed to get its initial funding goal of $15k in under 2 minutes. Emerald starts with the Limited Edition for those who just enjoy Jackson Robinson’s work and rounds off with the very limited Emerald Legacy Edition for those seeking the rare and collectable and if you want to keep that Collectable sealed, display decks are available.
The Emerald Tally Ho deck is inspired by my oldest daughter Claire. The Emerald theme comes from Claire's birthstone. Starting with the same basic design structure, as the Scarlett Tally Hos, the Emerald has a completely redesigned back and tuck. The same limited edition courts have been used with new design and color styles to match the new Emerald theme.

- Jackson Robinson, Kings Wild Projects
At the time of writing, the Emerald Tally Ho is currently sitting at $26k with no sign of stopping. Only the single and double Limited Edition decks reward tiers are available. Like the Scarletts, Emerald Tally Hos will truly be something that very few will have but many will want.

Don't miss out!

Collections: Scarlett Tally Ho by Kings Wild Project

Kings Wild Projects has brought us some of the most beautiful, collectable decks in the industry in the last few years. The latest uber collectable offering does not disappoint, the Scarlett Tally Ho’s. Inspired by the iconic brand as well as Jackson Robinson’s daughter (Scarlett), the deck is a beautiful reworking of the classic Tally Ho’s.

The Tuck is a deep red with Gold Foil accents and embossing as well as a “Lattice” like pattern that embellishes the interior of the tuck to complete the custom case. For those with a keen eye, there is also a secret buried within that I’ll leave for you to discover. The cards themselves have completely custom courts with 2 gold metallic ink accents on the face cards as well as 1 gold metallic ink accent on the back design presented in the bold, intricate design style that we’ve come to expect from KWP. The Ace of Spades as well as the Jokers design are homage to the original key card design and concept.

The Scarlett Tally Ho’s were available in 3 variations, the Limited Edition, the Gold Edition and the Legacy Edition. All 3 printed in very limited numbers. The Limited Edition had a print run of 700 decks, the Gold Edition Only 200 decks and featured Gold Gilded edges and the Legacy Edition which featured a Gilded Deck in a Custom wooden slip case which was individually numbered to 50 and signed by Jackson Robinson on a custom seal. For those who cringed at the thought of opening there rewards, display decks were also available with a “Standard” tuck and the same deck within, metallic inks and all.

When Jackson started teasing this deck I was really excited about it, it is Jackson at his best. These decks were geared towards true collectors and while some were none too happy about the cost of adding one of these decks to their collection, they were swallowed up at a feverish pace. This campaign really boiled down to what type of collector you see yourself as and those who are interested in the uber limited made their voices heard. While I find myself questioning Limited offerings more and more each day, the Scarlett Tally Ho’s were no disappointment and delivered quite the bang for your buck in my opinion. So much so that recently a Legacy Edition was sold in upwards of $600.00 on eBay. Would I pay that, probably not, but the Scarlett’s offered everything you would look for in a true collectable, a limited offering and most importantly, a beautiful custom package from tuck to cards. Numbers aren’t what it’s all about, if the deck is lacking a 25 deck print run is meaningless.

I would highly recommend adding these to your collection, although if you missed picking them up during the campaign it will put a dent in your wallet. If nothing else, pick up a display deck and keep an eye out for a Limited Edition to stash away. If you have no financial limitations, definitely go for the gold.

ANYONE Unveils the Tally-Ho Anyone Playing Cards

Few playing card designs have shaped cardistry culture as profoundly as the Tally-Ho Circle Backs. Known for their elegance and handling, these decks... particularly the legendary blue seal editions from USPCC’s Ohio factory. They weren’t just cards; they were the beginning of an obsession.

That emotional history is what inspired Anyone to work with the USPCC to create the Tally-Ho · Anyone, a respectful yet refined evolution of a classic. Rather than altering the beloved design, Anyone enhances its performance through a custom black ink formula that produces a noticeably smoother surface and a tactile feel optimized for motion.

The presentation captures the minimalist confidence that defines Anyone’s visual identity. The cards come housed in a double-back tuck, marked subtly with an A1 signature at the base. A blue USPCC seal closes the deck, a deliberate nod to the original Tally-Ho editions that sparked so much enthusiasm within the community.

The deck is printed on Thin Crushed stock, pressed for a slimmer profile and livelier snap perfect for flourishes, displays, and rapid handling.

This release arrives as part of a limited Black Friday window, paired with Anyone’s newly designed deck bag. The pricing will only be available for forty-eight hours starting at $9 per deck and $130 for the bag, this is the only chance to get these items at 50% off on Anyone store.

Indiegogo: 7 Questions with Kenneth Aidan Foo of Isometric playing Cards

Isometric Playing Cards are a deck of playing cards designed with cardists and magicians in mind. Created by Kenneth Aidan Foo, mastermind behind the popular card flourish, Ripple, this aesthetically pleasing deck is sure to grab attention in a quick glance.

Exuding style, this deck subtly pays tribute to one of the great classics, the Tally Ho Circle backs. The design is centered around a hexagon with triangles blading out along the short ends. The striking blues, combines with the stark geometric design and two-toned greys accentuate spinning flourishes, fans, cuts and displays.

We were able to catch-up with Kenneth for a quick chat on the Isometric deck, the design process and cardistry.

You are an amazing cardist! Can you tell us about yourself and how long have you been doing cardistry?
That’s so nice of you to say! Well, first off, my name is Kenneth, I’m a Singaporean born and raised, studying in Perth, Australia. I've been doing cardistry for about 7 years now!

When did you first start thinking about using Indiegogo for the project? What made you decide to take the plunge?
Well, I had initially planned to use Kickstarter, however, after setting up an account and beginning to formulate a marketing plan, I realised that Kickstarter did not support Singapore citizens so I had to make the move to Indiegogo. It is super unfortunate that people don’t see Indiegogo in the same light as Kickstarter. Indiegogo has been a pretty satisfactory platform for me so far!

What is your inspiration behind the Isometric Playing Cards? How did you come up with the idea?
I had wanted to make my own deck of cards for a very long time. A lot of the early versions consisted of triangles and hexagons. I gave up on designing the deck for a couple of months and focused on a bunch of other projects. Eventually I decided that my deck would pay tribute to the Tally Ho circle backs and slowly everything fell into place.

Some people see a major similarity with the Isometric Playing Cards to the Virtuoso deck. I can definitely see the similarity, but I felt that my design offered a different sort of take on the concept of geometric backs.

Walk us through the process you took to design this unique deck. How did you get to this finished product and what was your most brilliant breakthrough when designing the deck?
That’s a tough one to explain. I’ve had this long standing fascination with hexagons and wanted to find a way to incorporate them into something I did. Eventually, like I said earlier, I decided that I would use one of my all-time favourite decks – Tally Ho Circle Backs, as a starting point and everything fell into place.

The hexagon sat nicely in the centre and the “blades” of the design mirrored the lines along the top of the circle backs. The most brilliant breakthrough was the colour scheme. I was trying to find something that looked different enough, and was experimenting with a wide range of hues and colours to fill the 10 triangles in the deck. It is much harder than it looks. After a few nights of experimenting, I finally came to the current colour scheme and just loved the heck out of it.

With all the projects competing for funding, why should potential backers choose your deck? Well, I've found that a lot of the current decks vying for funding are either super intricately designed decks that are going for the “custom everything” look, or the super minimal, almost lazy, design. The Isometric Playing Cards offer a really cool, simple custom back design that catches the eye, but at the same time doesn't feel too lazy, or go too overboard.

At the same time, they are going at a really affordable price for backers! I don’t want my deck to sit on someone’s shelf as a “super rare limited collector’s edition”. I want to see people use them!

What do you think of about the growing trend of cardists having their own brand?
It is really great to see people willing to take risks and developing their own brands. Not just with cards, but with merchandise and marketing as well! One piece of advice that I can give for cardists developing their brand though, is to take your time to find out what you are trying to achieve. I often see very new cardists struggle with trying to make themselves popular by putting out video after video and picture after picture. Work on your material first, then find out how your material can work for you.

Finally, what are your favourite playing card decks?
I gotta go with the classics. Blue Seal Tally Ho Circle Backs and original Studs. I would stab someone to get my hands on more of those cards.

Thank you for your time, Kenneth and all the best! If you like what you've read here and want to support Isometric Playing Cards, you can find it on Indiegogo Here!

Pledge starts from USD$12 and will be printed by Legends Playing Card Co on their Emerald stock and finish.

Collections: Tally Ho Viper by Ellusionist

The Tally Ho Vipers were another of the early "Custom" playing card releases that started the insanity we see today....not that it's a bad thing, but who would have predicted what was to come.

The Vipers feature a slightly thicker stock than standard Tally Ho's, but outside of the slight customization found on the tuck, the decks are identical, although inverted, reproductions of the classic deck. Available as Fan backs as well as Circle backs, the two versions vary only slightly. Both versions feature silver metallic inks, but the Circle backs add a splash of color by retaining the heats and diamonds classic red color. I love these decks, the contrast is striking and they do feel and handle really well. Being one of the 1st decks in the initial flood of custom decks also makes them a special part of a collection.

Between the two, I would have to side slightly with the Circle backs, only because the red pop of color from the Hearts and Diamonds just stands out so well. The good news is you can still pick these up here and there without too much of a financial burden.
