Shantell Martin Playing Cards by Theory11

For their latest collab, Theory11 has teamed up with the Whitney Museum of American Art to produce a series of playing cards designed by prominent artists. The first offering was released today and has been imagined by art star Shantell Martin. 

The objective was to pair T11's expertise in print production with the spirit and sincerity of the artist’s voice - using playing cards as a unique, handheld medium to present Shantell’s visionary art.

Shantell Martin’s signature black and white drawings inspire and innovate, while exploring themes such as intersectionality, identity, and play. Her compositions are a cultural facilitator for forming new connections between fine art, education, design, and philosophy. 

Fans of Martin are sure to recognize her designs, which have been highlighted with dashes of color. The Jack of Hearts, for example, is surrounded by a jumble of letters that spell out “Joy” and “Helper.”

The Shantell Martin decks are available NOW at the Whitney gift shop, as well as Theory 11’s website for $9.95.
